Active / Standby WAN Interface loadbalancing in Sopho UTM Firewall

In this article, I will demonstrate how to set active/standby WAN Interface load balancing on Sopho UTM.

Step (1) Create Second WAN Interface

Go to Interfaces & Routing > Interfaces > Click " + New Interface "

step(2) setup information for your second wan interface address.
  • Name : naming your interface
  • Type : select "Ethernet"
  • Hardware : choose the interface that you want to use as second WAN interface
  • Dynamic IPV4 or select static if you want to assign static ip address

Step(3)  Go to interface & Routing > Interfaces > uplink Balancing .
Switch on this button. (by default "disable uplink balancing" )

Go to active interface section and choose the interface that you want to use active interface and
also choose standby interface for standby.

Enable the "internet2" interface as shown below. Now we have two WAN interfaces are working properly.
NOTE: YOU CAN SEE THAT INTERNET2 INTERFACE STATUS "DOWN" BECAUSE INTERNET2 IS WORKING AS STANDBY MODE. IF INTERNET1 IS DOWN, INTERNET2 WILL BE "UP" AND WORKING AS ACTIVE MODE.

Step (4) Check the connection from your client machine with the help of ping command.

step (5)  Testing WAN Failover.
At the time , I shutdown my active INTERFACE1 to check Internet2 is working or not.

After shuting down the internet1 interface, the standby interface internet2 is switch to standby mode and working as active interface.
